+ What is CHAgives?
We have a day for giving thanks. We have two for getting deals. Now, we have #GivingTuesday, a global day dedicated to giving back. On Tuesday, December 3, 2019, charities, families, businesses, community centers, and students around the world will come together for one common purpose: to celebrate generosity and to give. A handfull of our local nonprofit organizations and the Chattanooga Chamber of Commerce, are teaming up to harness the power of #GivingTuesday locally with CHAgives, Chattanooga's own city-wide #GivingTuesday campaign!
It’s a simple idea. Just find a way for your family, your community, your company or your organization to come together to give something more. Then spread the word about why you are giving using the hashtags #CHAgives and #GivingTuesday. Last year, we raised nearly $500,000 for Chattanooga's nonprofit community in just 24 hours. During #GivingTuesday 2017, the city of Chattanooga ranked in the top 15 most generous cities in America, out of over 110 other #GivingTuesday campaigns!
Join us, as a nonprofit fundraiser, a business, a group, or a personal donor, to make Giving Tuesday in Chattanooga even bigger and better this year!
+ What is #GivingTuesday?
Created by the team at the Belfer Center for Innovation & Social Impact at the 92nd Street Y—a cultural center in New York City that, since 1874, has been bringing people together around the values of service and giving back—#GivingTuesday connects diverse groups of individuals, communities and organizations around the world for one common purpose: to celebrate and encourage giving. A team of influencers and founding partners joined forces, collaborating across sectors, offering expertise and working tirelessly, to launch #GivingTuesday and have continued to shape, grow and strengthen the movement.
The Big Idea Behind #GivingTuesday
#GivingTuesday harnesses the potential of social media and the generosity of people around the world to bring about real change in their communities; it provides a platform for them to encourage the donation of time, resources and talents to address local challenges. It also brings together the collective power of a unique blend of partners— nonprofits, civic organizations, businesses and corporations, as well as families and individuals—to encourage and amplify small acts of kindness. As a global movement, #GivingTuesday unites countries around the world by sharing our capacity to care for and empower one another.
+ Why Participate in CHAgives?
This might sound crazy, but #GivingTuesday is now the largest international movement in the world. It is also one of only 3 days on the calendar where donors are actively looking for a charity to share a donation. By joining in CHAgives, you will be joining the larger worldwide network of #GivingTuesday participants who are working together to create a more generous and giving society.
+ How has CHAgives performed in the past?
During #GivingTuesday 2017, Chattanooga ranked as the 15th most generous city in America! CHAgives began in 2015 by rasing just over $100,000 for the Chattanooga nonprofit community. Since then, Chattanoogans have essentially doubled their #Giving Tuesday donations every year.
- 2015 - $105,000
- 2016 - $217,000
- 2017 - $481,000
+ Is CHAgives all about the donations?
No! While counting donations does help determine the success of yearly campaigns, CHAgives is all about inspiring a spirit of giving and generosity in Chattanoogans. You can give back however you like, whether it's sharing a donation, pledging volunteer hours, or even just doing a kind favor for a stranger. #GivingTuesday is about taking back the season and giving back to your community.
+ Who can Participate in CHAgives?
Anyone, anywhere can give back in a way that's meaningful to them. Whether you're a group, organization, or just as one person looking to make an impact, there's no limit to the ways you can participate in #GivingTuesday. You can share a donation to a local charity, volunteering, or even just posting on social media with the hashtags #GivingTuesday and #CHAgives. You are encouraged to get creative! And please share your ideas with us by posting on social media.

+ Why should Businesses participate in CHAgives?
Americans love a brand that supports a cause. If your business is looking for a way to give back and show your support for a local charity here in Chattanooga, CHAgives is the perfect opportunity to accomplish just that. Giving Tuesday increases exposure and builds support for your organization's philanthropic activities. Your organization will have the opportunity to join hundreds of thousands around the world to enhance the philanthropic sector as a whole; just as the retail world has benefited from coordinated national shopping days, this day does the same for giving. Follow this link to see how and why businesses should participate during #GivingTuesday.
+ Where do CHAgives Donations Go?
We link to each participant's own donation platform so all donations go directly to the organizations and CHAgives does not process any donations or share any reporting on the individual organization level.
